Release of Google FriendConnet -via Qik
Tonight I watched the official release of Google’s FriendConnect. I jumped back and forth between Scoble’s and Arrington’s footage of the event via Qik. My take on Qik will be coming in the next few days but for now I want to focus on Google FriendConnect.
FriendConnect is basically the commoditization of the social graph. It gives each site owner the ability to easily introduce the social network of that sites readers/viewers. Without much code at all I can begin to connect all those who visit my web site. Google will be rolling this out slowly over the next few weeks as they are able. FriendConnect gives site owners the ability to allow their readers/viewers to use their other social site connections (Facebook, Pownce, etc.) and apply them to their relationship on this site. Pretty cool.
Below is Michael Arrington’ss footage of the site using Qik.com to film it live.
This is a solid example of Google taking advantage of their size to come over the top of many other social sites and change the game.
