Appolicious: A better app store – from Chicago

ScreenHunter_02 Sep. 02 15.22

I recently hoped to find an iPhone app so that I could pull up TV schedules really easily. I search the Apple app store for “tv schedules” and found 3 options (screen shot below), of which had reviews but they really weren’t enough to find out which app was actually the best. I needed more reviews, I needed better screen shots, basically I needed a better solution.

Well here it is, directly out of Chicago. Appolicios indexes and gives tons more user populated information on appropriate applications, in this case it pulled 49 applicable apps. We all know Apple just doesn’t give us enough information to decide whether or not to purchase. As applications cost money people really want more information before they purchase and Appolicious fixes that problem.

Here’s the description of how to use Appolicious from their site.

How to use Appolicious

Here are a few easy steps to personalize your Appolicious experience.

Create a profile: Share what type of app user you are. Are you a workout junkie, film buff or parent trying to find appropriate apps for your children? Having a profile at Appolicious will help you find the apps that are right for you. Once you create a profile, you will be able to access advice and recommendations specifically for you.

On your profile page, you can update your recent activity and share other details about how you use apps. The more we know about what types of apps you like, the better our recommendations will be.

Discover apps: Search for an app by title or browse through our categories to locate the types of apps that interest you. At Appolicious, you can find information about every app in Apple Inc.’s iTunes App Store (with apps for BlackBerry, Android and other systems coming soon). All our apps are linked directly to iTunes, so you can download and purchase any app you like after you find it on Appolicious.

Read, write reviews: The Appolicious team includes journalists and critics who help you sort through the clutter and identify the best apps available. Click the Appolicious Advisor tab to find professional reviews and stories that break down the best apps for your interests. We also want you to share your opinions by writing reviews at Appolicious and by commenting on reviews written by other users.

Tell us what apps you use: An easy way for Appolicious to make recommendations is by telling us which apps you use. There are two ways to share that info. You can let Appolicious copy the names of your apps directly from your computer using our app wizard. Or, you can just type in the names of the apps you own. You’ll find both options for your App Library under the Profile tab.

Be social: By following friends and users with similar interests, you will access recommendations and insight from people like you. Who you follow will also help us to determine which apps should be presented to you. Other people with similar interests will follow you as well. You can check out what apps they own or block them from following you if you don’t like their “apptitude.”

Invite friends: Appolicious makes it easy for you to invite friends and contacts to the site. Share your app experience by importing contacts from Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo!

Tell us what you want: Use Appolicious to Find mobile apps you’ll love. If you don’t see us giving enough love to the apps that interest you, let us know.
